The Brother Rice High School Mothers’ Club wishes to extend to all mothers/guardians a warm Crusader welcome! We are a social and volunteer service group who assists the Brother Rice administration and community. Every mother or guardian of a Brother Rice student is automatically a member of the Mothers’ Club. We have no fee “to join.” We simply ask for your time, talents, and friendship.
The Mothers’ Club meets the first Wednesday of each month during the school year in the school library. Additionally, our group has no shortage of volunteer opportunities that enhance the high school experience for each of our sons, from helping with Teacher Appreciation Breakfast to co-chairing an event, such as the “Rice Pride” Awards Night.
Come and make new friends and learn what the Mothers’ Club is all about. Please email us if you have any questions. To learn about our volunteer opportunities, please click on the sign-up button below.
A Mother’s Guide to Brother Rice Mothers’ Club Events
These are the events that the Mothers’ Club hosts in the school year. They are listed in the order that they occur. Every Mothers’ Club event has one or two mothers who are chairing (in charge) the event. Volunteers are needed to assist.
Teacher Appreciation Breakfast
This happens in September. Moms are needed to clean the teachers’ lounge the evening before, including refrigerators. Three to four moms are needed to assist the chair and to act as hostesses for this event.
Get Acquainted Party
This event happens in mid-October. It is a great way to meet freshman or transfer students’ moms or guardians. Three to four moms are needed to help set up in either the library or cafeteria to host this event. Some decorating is needed. Clean up is needed afterwards.
Open House 1 and II
These occur the first and third Sunday of November. Ten to twelve moms are needed to serve refreshments and to take families on tours.
This event usually is a Sunday in November. It is the biggest event for the Mothers’ Club. There are many different committees to volunteer. Many moms are needed. They include chairpersons for the grand raffle, decorations, publicity, fashion houses and models, reservations, and instant raffle, to name a few. Committees start to meet late summer.
Junior Leadership Ceremony (Class Ring Ceremony)
This is an afternoon event that usually occurs in November during school. Three to four moms are needed to host, serving cookies and punch after the ceremony.
Carson’s Community Days
Occurs twice a year, in the late fall and early spring. Moms assist with selling these booklets and supervising Brother Rice students while selling at scheduled times at Carson’s. Two to four moms are needed.
St Leo’s Holiday Gift Giving
This event occurs in early December. Moms and students will take all items donated to St Leo’s Veteran’s home, distribute the gifts, and serve a meal to the veterans. Four to six moms are needed to make up gift bags of personal items to give each veteran in residence. This is a late afternoon to evening event.
Incoming Freshman Test Day
This event is held the second Saturday in January. Six to eight moms are needed to host new, prospective parents. Coffee and donuts are served.
National Honor Society (NHS) Induction Ceremony
This event usually occurs late January. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are inducted. Three to four moms are needed to host, serving punch and cookies after ceremony.
Mother and Son Mass and Breakfast
Four to six moms are needed to help set up the cafeteria and to clean up after breakfast. Breakfast is catered. Mass is before the breakfast in the gym. Help with check in is needed before Mass.
This event usually occurs early March on a Saturday. Six to eight moms are needed to help new, prospective parents fill out the forms for registration at Brother Rice High School. This event occurs in library.
This event occurs after the April Mothers’ Club meeting. We host a baby shower in support of the Courage Program at St. Germaine Parish. Three to four moms are needed to decorate and host the shower. We ask all to donate new unwrapped baby items for this worthy cause.
Student Awards Night
This event occurs in early May. After the presentations, the families will be served punch and cookies by the Mothers’ Club. Three to four moms are needed to setup and clean afterwards in the cafeteria.
This occurs in May a few days before graduation. This event is for seniors with their families. After a mass in the gym, the families will come into the cafeteria for appetizers and desserts. Four to six moms are needed to serve the food, drink, and desserts that are catered from a local restaurant. Some prep needed and clean up is necessary.
