Al Filan was an outstanding teacher who served Brother Rice High School with pride and dedication for almost forty years.
During that time, he was always devoted to the young men he taught and coached, bringing great passion to all that he did. He was also an exceptional colleague who as a Department Chairman was a leader on our staff, and a mentor to many of our teachers.
Although there have been allegations in the press concerning Al’s personal life, we would hope that everyone will remember him for the good that he did, and ask God to look with mercy and favor upon him.
On Friday, January 31, Brother Rice will dedicate our first Friday Mass to the memory of teacher and colleague Al Filan. This service will begin at 9:00 A.M. While not open to the general public, all Brother Rice alumni are invited to attend. Attending alumni are asked to park in the 100th and Pulaski lot (entrance by the electronic sign). All alumni should check in the main office and you will be directed to the Mass.
Please continue to keep Al and his family in your prayers during this very sad and difficult time.
